BEDFORD – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), along with officials of the North Tarrant Express (NTE) and the LBJ Express projects, will host a news conference at 11 a.m. on April 24 to emphasize the importance of motorist and worker safety during Work Zone Awareness Week.
What: The event will highlight ongoing work zone safety efforts as TxDOT manages almost $6 billion worth of construction on public-private partnership projects such as the NTE and LBJ Express. In a construction environment where commutes change on a daily basis, NTE and LBJ workers and local law enforcement will provide accounts of crashes that they have experienced this year within their work zones, highlighting the importance of National Work Zone Awareness Week. Photos of crashes and the vehicles involved – including a Dallas police squad car and an NTE work truck – will be available.
Who: Dallas police traffic division Lt. Scott Bratcher and NTE Safety Director Bill Abbott will deliver prepared remarks about recent incidents and be available for interviews. North Richland Hills Police Chief Jimmy Perdue will discuss enforcement and the recently lowered 50 mph corridor speed limits. Local TxDOT officials will highlight ongoing work zone safety efforts as the department manages almost $6 billion worth of construction on public-private partnership projects such as the NTE and LBJ Express and another $4 billion in projects slated along interstates 35E and 35W, State Highway 183 in Irving and the Horseshoe project near Downtown Dallas.
Date: The event will be held in the NTE work zone, on the Murphy Drive/Westpark Way bridge over SH 183. Appropriate attire such as work boots and comfortable clothing is suggested. Media parking will be available at the site, with time allotted in the work zone for midday newscast standups. To RSVP, please contact the NTE, 817-710-0500.
